Overall it's a real nice car and the 4WD will be a definite plus in foul weather. For a period of 20 years (ending just a year ago) we had AMC Eagle wagons as winter cars. In a sense the Outback is the Eagle's spiritual successor.
The main option we wanted was heated seats, being spoiled by that feature in Saabs, so we bought the mid-level "Premium" trim level. We did not go for the Subaru "EyeSight" driver assist system. The technology is just too new and I don't trust it, particularly in a car we plan to keep for at least 10 years or more. (I've been working in the technology field for decades and have never found the bleeding edge to be a particularly comfortable place.)
Feels a bit strange - in 1985 I moved from Subaru to Saab. Now it's like coming back full circle. (Though I do plan to stick with Saabs for my own ride as long as possible, the Outback is primarily for her use.)
