Crazy Ferrari story.... Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Thu, 6 Jun 2019 09:24:48 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Over the weekend I did a web search for Ferrari 348's for sale. Google provided a number of web sale sites, one of them advertising a 348 for a low low price with ~66K miles and Major Service having been performed in Oct 2018. I remember the site being carsonline.com, and the car being located in Florida, but I admit my memory is not always flawless.
The ad contained around 10 exterior photos but no interior photos, no engine bay photos, no under-carriage photos. My senses immediately sensed something was amiss, but what the heck. I emailed the seller asking for photos of the engine and interior. It took a day for a response to arrive so while waiting I tried to find the original ad again. No where to be found! Hmmm...
The Buyer responded saying the car is still available, it will meet all US licensing and registration regulations, and has a clear title. No lien, no salvage Title. I replied a second time, again asking for the same photos.
So I receive another crop of photos yesterday. The same exterior shots, a couple new exterior shots, a few odd angle interior photos which limit how much was really visible, but nothing of the engine compartment - again! The photos show the driver's seat has been removed and replaced with a Sparco seat but retaining the original 3-point seat belts. The factory driver's seat is shown in one photo as sitting on the floor of a residential room next to some packing boxes. The seller also asked where I am located.
I replied a third time, stating I am located in Michigan, I will need to fly to Florida to view the car, but I need to see photos of the engine compartment, the under-carriage, and a photo of the latest Major Service Report before I will consider booking air travel.
Today I received another message from the Seller. This time he stated the car is located in Krakow, Poland! The owner claiming to be a Krakow Dentist who purchased the car while in the US last year for 10 months of work, and that Polish licensing regulations or fees are inhibiting him keeping the car. NOTE: In the original ad I distinctly remember he stated the Oct 2018 major Service was the third such service he had performed during his ownership! That fact stuck with me as these Services are expensive and typically done at 30K mile intervals, so why did he have three done in ~66K miles?
Obviously my initial senses were accurate.
BTW - there are other 348's currently listed on the internet for relative chump change as the Bring a Trailer Auctions for these cars yield $45k to $75K transaction prices.
If something seems to good to be true - it is!
