When the square looking 4000's were completely redesigned into the 80/90 series, the quality of Audi products took a quantum leap. This is about the time VW/Audi finally figured out how to build a world class interior and the general quality of the cars was now up to Benz/BMW standards as opposed to fancy VW standards before with the 4000s. Same with the 5000 morphing into the 100. They were the same car outside, but had an all new interior that reflected Audi's new found interior prowess.
4000's and 80/90s came in both inline 4s and 5s, and 90s came with a V6 from 93 and up and were badged as CS'. An 80 could be a four or a five, or a 90 could be a four or a five depending on Quattro or not. Some Quattros were the 20 valve motor. Ahhhhh and the Quattro Coupes were very neat.
4000s and 5000s were kinda' cheap and tinny, 80/90/100s became rock solid cars, but of only average reliability, but very durable if maintained properly.
