AWD makes a car understeer horribly, at least in stock form.
it's all about the geometry of the suspension & the design of the steering parts which determine the steering feel, also the strength of the chassis which determine how the car feels.
My viggen has pretty crappy steering feel, the MP VRK helped a LOT but it's still weak. Vague & not responsive, I blame a LOT of that on the flexy chasis & poorly designed steering rack mount
My brothers 9-3 ss aero has MUCH better steering feel then my viggen, reminds me of how my C900 feels.
You can usually get a more agressive alignment to help out the feel & also usually lowering the car helps
