Two guys I know recently bought Ferrari's... both '95 F355's. Identical cars. One was thrilled the previous owner had taken care of the recommended 15k routine service. Why thrilled? Because it carried a $6k tab, with nothing broken, nothing unusual. The other car had the work done at 20k miles to the tune of $11k, requiring a couple of extra parts.
The parts costs are not "high", they're stupid... $80+ for wipers? $3000+ for one exhaust header?
Yup, they're lovely cars to look at or listen to. Very romantic. But the quality is questionable. And, again, the costs to maintain are ludicrous. I love sports cars, high performance, exotic looks, all that. But I couldn't stand dropping my car off for maintenance and getting raped. I would feel like a golden bozo. Like the guy behind the desk is taking my shorts because if have more dollars than sense. Driving an exotic seems to make some folks feel powerful. But how powerless must they feel at the hands of the mechanic or parts guy? Moot point since these cars are way out of my budget anyway. But if I had the bucks to drop on a pleasure vehicle I'd want high quality and value as part of the package. Sorry for the rant...
