Seriously, your infant baby will be riding around in this car. In my book, safety and decent reliability (with two cars, you have a spare!) are the top metrics. My little ones have ridden in a Subaru Legacy wagon, a 9-5 wagon, and now a Honda Odyssey as their principal transport. All are above average for safety in their respective classes and were/are plenty reliable.
In the past 4 months I have made 3 ER trips with our nearly-one-year infant (due to cases of viral gastroenteritis), once in wake of a nasty ice storm which justified the Odyssey's snow tires. I trust that car will get me where I need to go when I need to get there, and failing that the 9-5 is our backup kid car (and my daily driver), and we all know Saab's reputation for foul weather performance. And safety.
"geez they are trouble" should be a red flag for the child's primary means of travel. A few roadside breakdowns or extended repairs and the Land Rover allure will be over. Really over, and your wife will blame you for its purchase ;-)
On top of that, a car-based SUV or crossover is unarguably, factually safer than a ladder-frame truck-based SUV for its occupants. Including your wee little one. It's your money, but I would strongly urge you to weigh practicality vs. wish fulfillment for this car. (personally, my dream car was a Saab, any Saab, so I got to get both with the 9-5!)
And for the record, Britax makes awesome car seats. Pricey, but it'll be under a month's payment for the new car and you will appreciate the non-tangling straps on those windy 2 degree F mornings.
