Some of the responses here amaze me... Anyway, my brother has both a Saab 9-5 Aero as well as a Discovery. The Disco is a '96. It really has been pretty reliable and he and his family (2 kids) drive it everywhere. Some servicing has been rather expensive, and he's had a few repairs (mainly wear and tear) but, it hasn't been as hideously unconscienable as some of the other folks here would lead you to believe. It's a truck. It's very stoutly made. It's somewhat lousy to drive, but, it will go almost anywhere. Not only do my brother and sister-in-law use it as a nearly-daily transport, but, they do serious off-roading with it as well. He doesn't pamper it, he uses it how Land Rover intended it to be used.
I personally don't care for the quality. But, if you're looking at much newer ones, they have much better fit and finish than his does. My only caution is that it is fairly narrow and is top-heavy. These do have a much higher tendancy to roll than a normal car. But, with this proviso, my brother has thoroughly enjoyed it and is likely to buy another one when this one finally quits.
