I think these days most cars have switched to biodegradable wiring. I know there was a big stink recently at Denver International when rabbits rolled in from the hills at ate a bunch of cars that were sitting in long term parking. Bet that was a surprise to all involved.
I think I have been thoroughly talked out of these cars - even the owners don't care for them. I'm still trying to find something a little upmarket and a little cheap (to buy, not necessarily maintain). I just don't care for NG900s, and I don't think OG9-3s are really all that reliable, either. My parents' car and my buddy's car (both '02 9-3s) have just had too many dumb issues that have left them stranded - failed throttle bodies, AC compressors, DI cassettes, etc. Can't risk that.
I'm gonna see about FWD 1.8T A4s (ours has been great so far, knock on wood :) and E36 318s. Maybe even go back to a W201 - those things seem to be quite bulletproof.
