A mechanic that doesn't have the Volvo VIDA program and DICE interface will not be able to do much as soon as diagnostic problems shows up in any of the many electrical systems throughout the car.
A good general mechanic can always do regular maintenance and brakes and such but as soon as it comes to those pesky warning lights, he will need the VIDA system.
You don't list the mileage but I service the Volvo's the same way as Saab's with 30K miles between major services and the 60 and 120K being a little bit more due to spark plugs and fuel filter replacement plus all the other filters and fluids and such.
Timing belt on that 06 is either 120k or 150K (or 10 years) depending on what emission level it has.
