You know as well as I do all the books are scams. They derive their pricing information from sales numbers turned in by dealers, so it's somewhere between collusion and self-fulfilling prophecy. "We sell Car X for $Y, therefore the book price of Car X is $Y, therefore we will price Car X at $Y." What NADA/KBB/etc. say have little bearing on anything other than people who show up to dealers with their wallets open. For those folks, the dealers go through all the books, find the one with the highest price for a given car, and sell accordingly. If the price of Car X really was $Y, there wouldn't be the crazy variation between Edmunds and the various colored KBB & NADA books. They're all a scam, traps set for unwary consumers by conspiring dealers. My $6,000 XJR is an $11,000 NADA car, an $8,000 Edmunds car, and a $13,000 KBB car. Seems like they'd all be the same, and I would have paid that price if the book prices had any resemblance to reality. Fortunately they don't, so I've got thousands of dollars in my pocket to spend on hookers & blow!
