While Jags do have a certain rep, the XK8 didn't even start development until after Ford took Jaguar over and started addressing the quality issues, plus it used a brand new engine (including engine production facility) that also didn't start development until after Ford took over and likely also influenced.
So while I don't know how good it's quality really is, all the write ups talk about how much better it is than the car it replaced, the XJS which dated back to the mid 70's, and more than worth the risk especially as can pick up a lower mileage one for a relatively good price.... plus compared to Aston Martin or Maserati, it's practically a high production vehicle with benefits of parts, donor vehicles & mechanics / dealers out there. Plus with not as crazy performance orientated as the Aston or Masarati, even in R form, likely less expensive parts and maintenance, and better overall ride quality.
Sorry for the rambling... considering it's a near freezing rain in Chicagoland today, nice to have such a distraction.
