I agree with Justin that you should be able to get a 2005+ for that money. It's a much better car. I would really say get the V8. The fuel economy isn't much worse, and even if you feel like you don't need the power it really makes the car feel much more 'special' even in regular driving. Both generations of V6 are pretty truckish, plenty of torque but not much fun.

I second looking at a nice 9-3SS and the BMW 3er - you'd have to be somewhere pretty rural not to have someone that can work on those.
