By doing this mod as I have, It's been my understanding that the reason to do it is lowering the boost retard timing and avoiding pre-ignition under full boost, not to gain more advance. That much (21 static) increased advance risks causing valve damaging ping. Right? High octane gas or not, unless your engine is carbon build-up free (how many are?), carbon alone can cause ping. Add to that increased timing and you're asking for trouble - so says my thinking. It's usually the cruising speed pre-ignition that causes the most valve damage, and on these cars, the timing is max advanced during cruising (highway) speeds. Reason being is that's when the least amount of fuel is being sprayed on the back of the valves to cool them.
