The poly mount keeps the trans from moving around so much, which is a good thing. The trans still sees the same forces from the ground via the drive shaft and from the engine via the clutch. The only down side of the mount is the extra vibration to the chassis from the movement of the engine/trans reacting to the applied forces. The gears don't see any additional loads....
I think Chad is right, this mechanic is one who doesn't like non-OEM stuff.
