My dad cracked a piston in his 900 turbo. He was running a red box which put him deep into the RED zone of boost without ANY additional modifications to the stock set-up. He was running totally stock injectors and didn't even swap-up to a 3.0 FPR, so I concluded that his piston failure was a result of insufficient fueling for the amount of increased boost he was running.
These type of failures seem to be rare in stock turbos and even in mildly modified turbos w/o any supporting mods.
If the following is incorrect, please (someone) correct me:
If you're running 24lb injectors but the chip thinks there's a 34lb injector there, then you're really shortchanging your fueling since the amount of fuel per squirt in a 24lb injector is less than the amount of fuel per squirt in a 34lb injector. Since 24 is 70.5% of 34, whenever your injectors pulse, only 70.5% of what the ECU requested is delivered to the engine.
I guess that doesn't explain why your wideband readings were good for idle and cruising, but do you know what they were like at high boost?
