You can make 400bhp with some bolt ons and the 500bhp is starting to push things pretty hard, but the tranny will have trouble staying around for any length of time at 400bhp unless you are easy on it and roll into the throttle and do things like that.
I always say when thinking of tunning a motor, "let the motor breath" get the air in and get the air out and cool it down some. That means a nice free-flowing intake, exhaust and a good ic. W/m works good as a chemical intercooler.
You get a good intake, a gt3071 or so bb turbo, a good 3" free-flowing exhaust and cat and then add the tuned ecu and larger fuel injectors so you can match the fuel to the air you are now pushing through the motor. That would get you to around 400-450bhp.
Most people say do the suspension and brakes first before you add all the power. You want to go fast, you should be able to stop fast! Springs/shocks and a good sway bar and some good brakes will be a good start. Some poly bushings in some key places like the wishbone and arb. The uppermotor mounts and tranny poly mounts are good too.
There has been some recent testing suggesting that the stock exhaust manifold and some tubular ones are not much different in the power range in the 300-400bhp range. I would personally like a nice tubular e-manifold because this allows you to move the turbo over so you can get either a decent inlet pipe on a ng900 or a better dp on a 9000.
Good luck,
John
