It seems F1 GS-D3 tires aren't what they used to be Posted by AdamB [Email] (#3) [Profile/Gallery] (more from AdamB) on Sun, 14 Jun 2009 04:39:42 In Reply to: What Tires?, RBatsch, Thu, 11 Jun 2009 09:57:11 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Goodyear moved production from Germany to China and apparently cheapened the compound. I found out after getting worse wheelspin in 2nd gear with brand new 225/45-17 F1 tires than with bald 205/55-16 ContiSportContact 2's. Forget WOT in 1st gear, in 2nd gear it holds on until around 35-40 MPH then starts spinning.
This on a heavily modded 9000 with Quaife, SPEC flywheel & clutch etc. Power wise it's still running conservative software with 1 bar to the redline (GT28RS) because I haven't had time yet to have it finally mapped at Maptun.
I've heard good things about Goodyear's new max performance tire, the F1 asymmetric. Other than that I guess there is ContiSportContact 3, Michelin Pilot Sport 2, Bridgestone RE050A and then all the radical semi-slicks
