I redid my 2001 Aero a couple of months ago, and did put in Wossner pistons. Because you have to bore out the cylinder they are cheaper than than OEM, and I feel much better. I have 4000 miles on them now and really love the way they work. I do have stage 1 done by JZW and I really do notice a huge difference.
I believe the Wossners are the same weight as stock.
We did reduce the rotational mass by installing an aluminum SPEC flywheel from Nick at genuinesaab. We also removed the balance shafts and chains. In a manual transmission car this all makes a HUGE difference in response. I would have the flywheel lightened by your machine shop. Stock is 23lbs. the SPEC I put in is 11 lbs. This makes a great difference.
I bought a new ECU on e*ay and sent it to John White at JZW for a stage 1 tune. I find this to be a big improvement and my guess is 280 to 290 HP. I also love the extra input you get from the open SID.
I can watch requested airmass and actual airmass. You can also measure engine torque.....good stuff!!
Be happy to answer questions you may have. I considered the JE pistons from Nick, but I have an old friend from Land Speed Racing at Wossner so I went to him.
