The assumption being that the larger the diameter the pipe, the higher the performance gained? I wonder if this is true as I would think that designing bends and such for maximum airflow would have lots to do with it. I look at GS's 3" exhaust and really wonder how those almost 90 degree bends fair with air flow?? I'd also think that the design of the mufflers would play a large role. Would SAAB (or whoever designed/built the SAAB Sport for SAAB) or BSR have more development money and know how to design and test an exhaust for maximum air flow?
It would be most interesting to see data, or even testimonials, on the comparison of various exhaust systems. I for sure don't know enough about this topic and even wonder if one would notice the difference in performance between one and the other? I do know that some back pressure is needed for proper performance but how that even works, I don't know....
