9-3 Boost question for the gurus

While waiting for an oil change on my wife's car at the Saab dealer last week, I browsed through the brochures in the showroom. Comparing the plots for torque and horsepower for the 9-3 S, SE and Viggen, it struck me that they are really just vertically scaled versions of one another. The rate the torque (boost) comes on is roughly the same for all three, ie. the same gain per 1000 rpm. Presumably this is why the boost peak for the Viggen is reached a little later than the S.
So my question is this. The only way the T7 box in my 2000 9-3 S knows what the boost pressure is, is via one or two pressure transducers on the manifolds. If these were to be tricked into reading a lower boost pressure (say by a voltage divider), would one not get the increase in boost of something like the Abbott ECU upgrade at a fraction of the cost ?
Now I know the Abbott box comes with other goodies like a new wastegate. What is different about this wastegate compared to stock ? Lever arm ? Or just an uprated diapraghm ?
