autronic is good, but a little more pricy over wolf. autotune is probably nice feature though. i haven't done a lot of research on the autronic, but i know many systems other than the wolf require and initial outlay of $ for the system and then extra for all the sensors needed to make it run. wolf allowed me to use all stock sensors except the water temp sensor. wolf has ability to be tuned with the handcontroller, but also offers the ability to connect a laptop for more fine tuning. there are two auxiliary inputs (can also be used as outputs) which can be used to trigger external systems (i.e. nitrous, h2o injection, water spritzer on ic, etc.)
installation was pretty straight fwd. almost all wolf signals pull to ground therefore only power runs off relays were required extra. however, i cut into the stock wiring harness and spliced the wolf into the ground signal wires for the injectors, aic valve, and boost control valve. tps had its own 3 wire loom and so did the ignition and trigger sensors. i used stock ignition module, moved it over to the passenger side wheel well and rerouted the coil wires. overall, a pretty clean installation, i think. i removed all the old unused lh wires and components (finally glad to be rid of the amm). wolf ecu fits right where old lh ecu went and i cut back a flap of carpet to enable attachment of hand controller and laptop cable. fuel pump and system relays were retained with the wolf providing the signal to close them. finally, i added a 3-way toggle switch on the side of the center console for power for the wolf. that way i can have it off, on all the time (handy for working with maps and not needing the car running), and on when the ignition key is turned; it also adds a little security feature (with the toggle off, the car will crank all day and wolf will never provide fuel or spark).
i think the particular system you choose depends on what you want. it's almost to the point these days where all systems are pretty much the same, with the exception of little differences here and there. kind of like car stereo head units. you just have to figure out which features mean the most to you. i liked that the wolf system comes with start up maps, which pretty much guarantee you will get it up and running. it also provides led's on the side of the ecu which let you know that the ignition, the 4 injectors, boost control solenoid, idle control solenoid, etc. are getting signal; great for fault tracing. i am also very pleased thus far with the attention and service i have been given by both local wolf reps, distributors, and wolf australia. i can't remember how many emails i have exchanged with wolf au. and they have been timely and very informative. they even had me send them my maps and told me where i was having problems. to me, this is a big part of the ems purchase.
so, i am somewhat biased over other systems at this point. to me, the traction control feature wasn't a priority, i don't do much stoplight stomping or dragracing, but i do like the highway and on ramp pulls. fwiw, the autotune feature is not a necessity. i was driving my car to work in a couple days after install. not perfect, but certainly drivable. one plus specifically with the wolf system now is, if anyone else decides to throw one on their saab, i have maps which will require much less final tuning than i have already done. like i said before, this is definitely the way to go for the best, safest power. band aids and chips are all aimed at general groups, and therefore sacrifice some efficiency. they may work perfect on one car, but do nothing for another. a programmable ecu will be perfect for each and every car; it just requires a little more patience. off my soapbox, hope this helps.
