Bump stop: Cutting the bump stop of at the first bubble is the correct thing to do,been doing that for 20 years. The bumpstop needs to be there to prevent damages as you discribed.
A higher rate spring takes more to compress so the spring will absorb more and not let it hit the bumpstops as easily.
As for my adjusters working with other springs. Everthing in this setup is made to work with the parts supplied it might be adapted for others but not with the same results.
I understand that you beleive 500# is to much and it may be for some but any one going to the effort to install this type item is looking item is looking for increased performance.
