Actually there are 3 positions, idle (it is a little richer here and it tells the ECU to activate the AIC to maintain a constant idle speed of 850 rpm), not idle or WOT (this is where closed loop is happening), and WOT (which is somewhat less that WOT, maybe like 78 degrees throttle and this is where open loop is happening).

The main problem with this, is that if the actual values needed are not close to the ECU MAP, the ECU will be unable to make the adjustment in the first place. The next problem is that the ratio that you need is richer than what the ECU wants to make it in closed loop.

It's actually easier to take close loop out of the picture, this what was done when SAAB's were delivered without cat's. The ECU MAP values are a little richer than needed, this why they run better with the O2 sensor unplugged, but if you have a cat, there is a chance that the constant richer mixture could overheat it.

Even in closed loop the ECU is still ied to the preset MAP and can only adjust so far from it, maybe 5 or 10%. So, if you want to try this route, I'd do it without a cat and you will need someway to lower the voltage sent from the O2 sensor to the ECU, so it thinks that it is leaner than it actually is. I think that if you go out of the range that it can adjust for it will just revert to the preset MAP.

I still think that a better way to fool it, would be at the AMM. See AutoSpeed article to fool AMM at bottom of post. Or consider trying am AMM from an '84 Volvo 760 Turbo. This AMM is very similar to ours and has a larger ID, Bosch# 0 280 212 002. ECU Bosch#0 280 000 507. I believe that both of these can be put in any SAAB Turbo with LH 2.2 with good results. I am certain that just the AMM would work wel, I just got tired of messing with fuel pressures.
