I plan on doing the same basic thing for Canadian climate. Just putting a shut off on the "IN" side would effectively stop the flow of hot coolant through the throttle body. Any coolant left in the return line would not be under any pressure from the water pump. The only pressure would be from the coolant temp getting up a bit after driving. Given enough time, during a long drive the temp of the coolant in the return line would get 'close' to the temp of the rest of the system through the process of conduction.
My idea is to put a three way valve in both lines and putting in a small by-pass line between them. So when both valves are turned 90 degrees the flow is now throught the bypass line (short piece of tube 2") and not through the TB.
The best solution is remove all lines, plug the TB, and plug the feed/return as close to the source as possible. If you live anywhere the climate does not go down below 40 or 45degress F. thats what I would do...IMHO!
cheers.
