If swapping to 87-
you will need to change the dust shield due to the difference in rotor depth but the caliper's are the same. If you have the annoying "reverse clunk" that the earlier calipers are afflicted with than that would be a good time to replace the caliper hardware, $8.00 from eEuro and worth every penny.
BTW, I have no affiliation, just a happy customer

88- swap
I did it on my 86 SPG a few weeks back and the brakes are amazing! much better stopping power than before, plus the possibility of 9000 calipers in the future. One thing to keep in mind though is it is very time consuming and the handbrake isn't as easy as thought to be meaning...I still don't have one. Last weekend I was going to finish that with the help of my friend but we ran into a jam. After some time, we did come up with a good solution so this weekend It will have one... depending on the hurricane we're slated for.

the handbrake issue is my donar car is a 91 3 door and has the newer seat style which is quite different from the 86. So simply retrofitting the newer handle design isn't an option due to the difference in seat mounting point's in the car. That is due to the seat mounting in the 91 being 3" or so back from the 86 mounting point. My friend did the swap on his 86 from a 91 but he wanted the 91 interior in his car. I on the other hand don't want to convert my seat's. It was a situation that looked good on paper but it wasn't untill both cars where stripped of there interiors and sitting next to one another that the problem become evident... we'll see what happens.

Also, if doing the swap you might not need to swap the booster over. i meet up with a friend of mine at the SOC who swapped 88- but retained the older booster/master cyl. I swapped mine cause the booster was leaking and it made for easy access on the A-arm bushings. Speaking of bushing's, that's a good time to replace those old bushing's, ball joint's etc.

good luck with whatever you decide
Fish
