If you decide to swap the vented rotors on to the 85 check the hand brake lever and if it stick's on the release you will want to think about rebuilding the lever. The reason being in cold temp's the release will lock up and you'll be stuck with turning the front wheels and releasing it by hand, kind of a PIA. By rebuilding the lever your pulling it apart, cleaning the rust off the shaft and lubing it up. It can be a bit tricky so check the manual. Also make sure the caliper itself works before diving into it cause no point in rebuilding the handbrake lever if the piston is frozen. A thing about those calipers is rebuilt one's aren't going to set you back to much.

I'm not trying to say you'd need to replace them, just trying to help cover the general parameters for you.

Yes the 85 calipers work with vented rotors, I did it on my old 84 turbo, my dad's 86 900s and a 1979 5 door I bought that was converted to a 16v turbo using an 85(God I miss that car). I worked for an Indy Saab shop from before high school through college and on the weekends every now and then I go down and help out. It was and still is common for them to interchange those years as necessary. One of the upgrades we did in the early 90's for a lot of customers with modifies 85 SPG's was switch over to vented rotors when they needed brakes. These guy's loved there 85's and had all sort's of Group 6 and other part's in them but kept warping rotors. As a purchase vented rotors where/are more expensive than solid but it made for an inexpensive performance enhancemant.

Granted, the money they saved ended up paying for the wiring harness rebuild's 85's where notorious for (bad joke) but I guess it's the nature of the beast.

Good luck
Fish
