CHAINS are MUCH stronger. Saab dropped the gear primaries upon introduction of the 99 Turbo. I've seen the results of using gear primaries in a turbo setup.....kaboom! The 99 EMS put that gearset at the limit. You need a 900 front cover for the chain drive primary case. The 5 speed shifter rod should be fine. Make sure also that the chain drive ratio set is a 78 or even a 72...the 84s most US 900Ts came with is too low of a ratio in my opinion...I prefer 3000 rpm at 75 rather than 69 mph on a long trip.
