Torque is multiplied by the transmission and if present a torque converter. If the total gear ratio between engine and final drive is 5:1 then there is 5 times engine torque at the drive axels, minus losses in the tranny and converter. A key component for acceleration is the gear ratios used to accelerate. The RX-8 has a high reving engine which implies more gear reduction. Compare the total reduction (transmission + final drive, also transfer gear ratio if present) and most likely RX-8 has greater reduction gear to gear than an Aero.
