"Phantom Grip is junk. "
JEM, do you have any personal experience with this one? I have the PG in my SPG and (to me) the parts are well made, fit is great, and when driving it does what they say -- limits wheelspin, no funky driving feedback. So far it has made it through a track day and 10k miles of daily driving successfully.
As a mechanical engineer, I can't say that I prefer the PG method of spring-loading the spider gears using steel-on-steel friction surfaces. My favorite design is actually the hydraulic types like Gerodisc. Simple. Compact. Works great. Ahhh. So back to reality: PG is the only game in town for the c900, so it doesn't matter how much a quaiffe is or how much better it is.
I did read up on the many many Phantom Grip failures recorded in Saturn differentials and some Honda applications. However, the c900 diff & spider gears are pretty indestructible compared to those other cars.
So I'm keeping mine in there, if for no other reason than to find out which is weaker: the potentially crappy PG or the definitely crappy made-of-glass Saab 5-speed gearbox. Doh!
