i agree completely. i suspect that if the gears are locked together precisely (without flex to shaft) then geasr teeth would last longer as shear would not be induced by the shaft flex.

something i've been trying to develop conceptually is an internal mechanism that supports the shafts in several points on each shaft, holding them in their horizontal position, but sliding along with them as gears are shifted. it could either use the box as part of the support system or be integraded with the two shafts. This could eliminate (conceptually of course) shaft flex. There are a few different types of supports that would be possible, but again, it;s all concptual. if anyone would make it even if it was already designed and then like jak said there needs to be some demand.

i am surpirsed there isn't more pooling of resources for the tranny, given the number of people on the board that seem to be hot rodding the old saab to some degree of another.
