Hey there Mr. Turt,
I've always loved the look of the Sonett- I guess that's why I own two of them! And I very much appreciate someone that DRIVES their cars- no trailer queens for me!
So. You want a fast Sonett with a hypo motor and rear wheel drive. You ask much, my friend. As you already know, it's a heck of alot of work to take a front wheel drive car and make it rear wheel drive. A few years ago, some fellows with a long history in Saabs (John and Bill Jacobson of Sports Car Service) took a late model Saab motor and automatic transmission and stuffed it all in the BACK of a vintage Saab 95 wagon. They put the radiator and gas tank up front. The thing would lift the front wheels when the rear ones hooked up. But that's not what you want.
A fellow in Finland stuffed a V6 twin turbo in the front of a vintage 96. You can see it here:

The 96 is quite the wild looking ride. But what you REALLY want was built by a young man in Germany named Martin Roth. Take a look a THIS beast.

Okay, I admit it's still not exactly what you describe. IMHO, it's the best looking Sonett ever!!!
Have you thought of hot-rodding a vintage car that's already set up for rear wheel drive? An Opel GT or a 240Z?
Good luck with your endeavors!
