I took my '71 Sonett III to the annual town car show (Wheels On Academy in downtown Cary, NC) again this last Saturday. Due to sunny, warm weather it had a large turn-out of cars of all eras (at least over 130) along with large crowds.

My Sonett got the typical reactions of either "What is that?" or "I haven't seen one of those in xx years!" While certainly not concourse condition, it always pulls in a lot of kids who like the fact it is closer to their size, as well as lots of car buffs who have never seen a Ford V4 engine. This year I also had one woman stop by who reminisced about her late father owning one and the fact that they were a Saab family and she learned to drive in a 96. Another visitor was a local gentleman who grew up in Sweden but had been in the U.S. for the last 20 years. We talked for about 15 minutes about Saabs.

At the end of the show, the town gave out small trophies to the "Top 50" cars spread out over various decades, along with one Best of Show winner. With lots of great cars there, imagine my surprise when my Sonett made the group of winners for the decade of the '70s!

Thanks again to this group for all the tips that help keep my Sonett on the road!
