Sonett brake pedal - finally progress! Posted by Trogdor42 [Email] (#2494) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Trogdor42) on Sun, 30 Aug 2020 16:14:45 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Much as I hated to, I ended up having to use the “nuclear option” to get the brake pedal assembly out. After using every method I could think of from chemicals to heat to brute force, I finally just used a hacksaw and cut through the bracket on the brake pedal side. I’ll have to have someone weld it back in before the whole thing goes back together. It’s funny, Given that the brake pedal would barely move at all on the shaft I expected it to look at lot worse under there than it does. Apparently it doesn’t take much to really gum up the works.
So after finding an hydraulic press on Facebook Marketplace to push the retainer pins out (MAN were they stuck fast), it’s all in pieces and ready for a deep cleaning and sanding. Anybody have any thoughts about what lube to use under the pedal so I never have to do this again? Zep 45? Graphite? Something else? Open to suggestions. Wish me luck, amigos. Hoping to have Greta back on the road inside of two weeks.
Cheers,
-Troggy
