Just for the record, The Highgate has a balance pipe in between. The part of the exhaust that bolts onto the engine has a inside diametre of 40mm (I don't know exactly how much that is in inches, about 1.5). I had the flanges that go between the engine and the exhaust bored out to 40mm. When I had the engine out last spring I widened that gap as well to about that size. Engine picks up more easily. I read somewhere on a site that this was one of easy things to improve the engine's breathing capacity.
