Catalytic Converters
Posted by nattidk (more from nattidk) on Thu, 12 Oct 2000 14:07:14
I need some education -- what's up with catalytic converters? Specifically, I have a '93 9000 Aero, with 119K miles on it, and was wondering when/if the catalytic converter would need replacement, and how to determine if it needs replacing; if it plugged, the car certainly wouldn't run, but do the chemical properties that do the work 'wear out'/decay? And, is there a simple life-span/replacement period specified by Saab?
Additionally, if I replace it, has any had any experience w/after-market catalytic converters (if available)? And, if so, what pitfalls/design issues are there related to non-OEM converters (re: HP, backpressure). Thanks in advance!
'86 900 SPG, sold at 150k miles (miss it) '95 900S, sold at 65K miles (don't miss it) '93 9000 Aero (like it a lot)
