The Onstar system in 9-3s is still analog (not digital), AFAIK. Also, the Bluetooth option works with both Infotainment and Infotainment Plus (Nav) radios, according to the SAAB Global website. As far as multiband GSM phones, the change in frequencies seems simple enough-however, it would seem that SAAB is dependent on the vendor (of the GSM technology used in their radios) to adopt those changes.
The problem really doesn't lie with GM, per se-but with the lack of consumer demand (until lately) here in the US for Bluetooth capability. BT is being slowly adopted here in the US, but its growth is growing. GSM phones have only become vogue in the past couple of years in the US, whereas GSM technology has been widely adopted elsewhere.
The US is SAAB's largest market-accounting for at least a fourth of all global sales. We (in the US) need to raise a stink, so that changes can be made.
Unfortunately, I think those willing to push for those changes (us) are in the minority and thus our voices are not heard. I woud venture to say that a large percentage of current 9-3 owners don't necessarily care one way or the other. Those that do care, post here. :D
