SAAB was the first carmaker (ever) to make Bluetooth available with the intro of the 9-3SS. Not Audi. Not BMW. Not Acura. Not Lexus. Not Mercedes Benz. Not Volvo. Unfortunately, SAAB chose NOT to bring that technology Stateside.
The difference I thnk-is 1) Onstar, 2) GM's relationship with Onstar and 3) SAAB being a subsidary of GM-the conflict seems to lie there. Bluetooth's absence was (supposedly) Onstar's gain. It removes competition by deleting a feature (ultimately, at the US customer's expense).
The other carmakers (Audi, BMW, Volvo, etc) are not burdened with that relationship-hence, they offer Bluetooth. In fact-Acura is the only carmaker to offer both Bluetooth and Onstar (available on the MDX and RL models). The difference? It's not a GM product.
Maybe the next update of the 9-3 will include Bluetooth and a better nav system. Won't help us, though.
