On the lines that burst, does there seem to be a reason, such as routing of the hose or something similar? Wires to the rear defrost happens in other makes of 'vert and all hinges need lubricating, IMO.
Anyway...
My own sense is that the newer cars (from almost any company) seem more reliable in many ways. That's good for owner satisfaction, but it can also mean higher repair bills...due to complexity.
The amount of electronics in cars these days makes it much harder to diagnose problems, and what was once a simple parts replacement now requires a computer interface not available to us DIY types. And because electronics modules tend to be pricey, diagnosis and parts costs add up fast. So maybe this is the way dealers make their service business work. For instance, my #1 indy was telling me how the window motors in some cars these days need to be "married" to the car's computer. This kind of anal engineering is just plain crazy. Much better to just be able to buy a motor (new or used) and bolt it in.
Personally, I think even the 9-5 and the 9-3SS are too complex. I compare them to my '99 9-3 or my two 9Ks and it can be hard to know where to start (if it wasn't for Saabnet!). And the older cars are just easier to work on, IMHO.
