I own a 2000 9-5 Aero and I have only had
minor problems. The main being bolts on the
suspension that where not all tight, all
was fixed at no expense by simply lossening
and tightning again. As I have the optional
carbon dash, this became discolored, replaced
under warranty.
The only anoyance have been the Michelin OEM
tires which kept having punctures... I replaced
these with Dunlop SP9000, less noise, better ride
no punctures, no more problems.
The gearbox works fine if you drive fast, what
it does not like is shifting under 3500 rpm...
then it's notchy and slow. Once you know that
it's not a problem. It also does not love
it when you try to shift from 2nd into 1st at
low speeds, then best is to be near to a stop
or to stay in 2nd if you can or full stop.
Forcing in gears is a NO NO cause it can damage
the gearbox. If too much trouble, the shift
linkage can be adjusted, which if done right
will make it as easy to shift as a Jap car.
Overall the quality of the 9-5s build since 2000
is way up, and SAAB backs its warranty.
The car is lots of fun to drive... even more so
as mine got a ECU upgrade 260Hp. Simply said the
engine is a delight.
If you tow stuff, would it not be better to get
an Automatic? If so I would get a 2002 with the
5sd Auto box.
The only thing I would warn you about is the fact
that the "Aero" is addictive.... like a drug. Once
you get used to the Turbo pull many other cars
seem very dull and way underpowered.
Regards,
Coolknight
