1999-2009 [Subscribe to Daily Digest] |
I wanted to mention this to any of us who may from time to time stray (or think of straying) from the Saab brand, which I must admit includes me from time to time.
Yesterday, I rose and found a brief story detailing the upcoming 2004 CTS M-5 competitor being released next Spring. A 400+ V8 taken from the ZO6, a 6-Speed stick, upgraded suspension (over an allready fantastic base CTS chassis,) and as important, a revised interior. Why not wait a few months for this instead of taking the easy route with an Aero now. 400 vs. 310 (Hirsch Spec), 6-Speed vs. 5 speed, American heritage vs. socialist snow bunny.
And then I was able to remind myself why I drive Saabs (9-5s, nothing but) . . . I thought I'd list my reasoning. Some of these features may be construed as "gimmickry," but to me, I simply could not IMAGINE driving without them.
-The sveltest front seat cup holder in the automotive world (it's attracted so much attention from Industrial Design major friends of mine that I've had to force them to stop pushing it in and pushing it out.)
-The most practical and intuitive front seat window controls in the automotive world . . . raise all four windows with ONE hand simultaneously.
-The only vehicle I know of that comes with a sun-roof STANDARD . . . and yet still leaves headroom for 6'3er like me.
-The most perfectly placed ignition switch in the automotive world . . . and no Lou, it has nothing to do with the "safety" of it . . . I've just always had an easier time finding it than searching for a slot on the steering column by feel. Also, it takes much less effort to let your arm fall straight down into the slot rather than to reach around the steering wheel.
-Night Panel . . . a truly useful piece of equipment I use at night without fail (I understand the idea is for highway driving specifically, but its just so very discreet at any time.)
-Class leading trunk space (by "class" I mean comparable European makes) . . . I've fit ten foot PVC pipes through the rear seat, cinder blocks galore . . . I've had people complement me on the size of my trunk . . . my trunk for gods sake!
-The most ergonomically correct dash/center console available today, anywhere, at any price.
That feels good to get that out of my system. Happy motoring. :-)
