Just once, I would like to hear an explanation of how turnig out the lights on the dashboard relates to aircraft design, unless thewy are talking about dimming the cabin lights so you can get some sleep. Aircraft flown at night do NOT turn off the lights on flight instruments. The color and intensity of aircraft lights in the cockpit is chosen to minimize the impact on the pilot's ability to also observe and react to lighting outside the cockpit, such as the runway and taxi lighting, other planes and other objects better left unstruck. It is not however, turned off. When it is off, that is known as partial panel failure, and is not a nice thing.
This night feature thing has developed a legacy of it's own, in which the term "aircraft inspired" has stuck with it, but for what reason?
