Not saying I ran the tank down all the time... I did not always run it that low with my 9-3. It is just nice to know what is left in the tank. Sometimes in a trip you might not be near an exit to find a gas station when you might want to stop and it is handy to know whether you have around 10, 5, or 2 gallons left in the tank.
My 2000 9-3 has 225,000 miles on it and the original fuel pump was replaced at around 175,000 miles so I think it lasted quite a long time.
I am just trying to understand why the 9-5 registers so differently than the 9-3. I would think they would use similar parts for that. But, based on feedback from Bill H., AeroEd and Cark, it sounds like this is not unusual for the 9-5. I am just trying to understand all the behaviors of my new (to me) 9-5 sportcombi.
