As you're finding out, the enemy of any effective AC system is leakage. I'm going through this right now. A good friend runs a shop that has done many hours of AC work on various cars I've owned.

You'll want to ensure that your system can be pumped down to and HOLD at least 24 inHg vacuum. The system should be held for at least 30 minutes at that vacuum level. Following that you'll need to refill the system with 1.8 lbs of R-134a and fluorescent dye. There is PAG oil out there that contains the dye. A little bit (1 - 2 oz) will be sufficient to search for leaks. BG Frigi-Quiet® II is my tech friend uses. Run the car with the AC on for five to ten minutes. You should be getting air out of the vents at around 50°F. Then look for leaks using UV light and yellow glasses, or a Freon sniffer. If you find a leak, have the 134a recovered, and then replace the errant component and go through this procedure again. Unfortunately it costs about $140 each time you end with a leak and need to recharge the system. Note that slow leaks can be frustratingly hard to find.

One place that's a common leak source on our SAABs are the two lines that run along the sub-frame beneath the cooling fans. Make sure the lines are not in contact with anything but the plastic clips that retain them to the subframe. Make sure the plastic clips are still intact and doing their job.

Since you had an accident that affected the passenger's front, it's likely that the line was replaced that ran from the receiver dryer to the junction block behind the passenger's headlight. Check that line for any unusual contact points.

Good luck.
