I'm also surprised that you see 12C difference in engine temperature, and how are you measuring that?
I don't run A/C that much to begin with, but when I do, I turn it off some distance before stopping (and set to RECIRC to squeeze every last btu out of the evaporator coil). I don't know that it significantly reduces the coolant temp, but I'm assuming that if nothing else the condenser coil will cool off some, thus reducing total heat being trapped under the hood when stopped.
In the summer, I also frequently open the hood when I get home before pulling in the garage to cool the engine bay. I don't know if I'm prolonging the life of my DIC, but...
