tz,
You have a wasted pilot bearing (95% certain). The momentary "Kick" is the pilot bearing releasing under load and the noise is the crusty pilot bearing spinning. It may be the inner and outer races of the bearing moving separately (as normal but noisy due to being worn or rusty) or may be the bearing turning in it's bore if it is fully seized up. That (the latter) is pretty rare but I've seen it once or twice. The "Kick" could also be explained by a contaminated clutch disc but the noise tells us that your pilot bearing is shot. There is a remote chance that the noise is also originating with the clutch disc but it would have to be extremely worn to the point that rivets or other metal is projecting from the disc and scraping on the flywheel or pressure plate and that's less likely than a bad pilot bearing. Also you would have noticed really bad clutch performance while driving. You'll have to pull the entire clutch assembly to replace the pilot bearing so you should be prepared to replace any worn clutch components you may find before starting the job. Let us know how it goes.
