tz,
The pressure plate is part of the clutch cover. The clutch cover is actually the combined assembly of the pressure plate, spring (some have multiple coil springs) and the stamped steel housing that bolts to the flywheel. Typical replacement reasons include weakened spring or a scored, damaged or burned pressure plate surface. Other damage is possible but not very typical of the covers used in these cars. In use, covers with weak springs or warped pressure plates will usually cause chatter upon application. If your friction disc shows only normal, limited wear and there are no burned areas or other obvious damage then you can probably get by with re-using your cover. You should de-glaze the pressure plate (and flywheel if it's not in need of machining) with some course abrasive paper and then clean it good.
