From what you describe, the car fails to transmit power to the wheels no matter where the shifter is moved to. If there were a problem with the master, slave or hydraulics, you could still shift the car into gear with engine off and have it engaged and drivable if started in gear. No slipping, no noise.
What you describe sounds more as if it were somehow jammed in release position, or as if c;utch were completely worn out - - its friction surface worn away to point of slipping?
You say this was sudden, huh? Hard to take a clutch disc from fully engaging to worn out in four days, but????
Pull that cover and see what you can see.
Another possibility, on high-miles clutches, is that the clutch disk cracked free from its center hub. Usually then you hear a little metallic tinkling sort of noise, and all symptoms as you reported them. Comes not from abuse or from anything I think you could have done, but age and metal fatigue. Or a real cheap clutch disk.
