Thanks for all the suggestions, so it sounds like we should:
- check out the fuel injectors. maybe either have them clean/tested or replaced? they are the originals with 216,000+ miles, and have had to suffer through a couple dying fuel pumps, so i could see them not working that well anymore
- check the AMM/O2 sensor again. i hear you all on the rebuilt AMM, maybe it will be worth trying to find another used AMM to run in the car and see what happens.
- maybe look into running seafoam through the car to make sure the engine is indeed clean of carbon
- check for vacuum leaks or otherwise worn out intake parts.
- look into retarding the timing (we did do this once in 2010 to help the car squeak through). i believe set it from 16 to 15 maybe, can't remember for sure.
Anyway, will start trying to look into all of these. I've had this car for years and it is in darn good shape. Would hate to not be able to use it anymore because of this NOx issue.
