I'm pretty sure if they have a reserve north of $15k, without things being bid up this far, there would be little chance of it selling... that is a very steep reserve even if the car is actually mint.

I do agree though that any serious bidder would not place any bid until the last second (6 seconds is too early in fact)... it's foolish as it just bids the price up unnecessarily... you decide the maximum it is worth and place that bid at the last second - if it goes higher, someone wanted it more than you and overpaid (in your opinion), if you're lucky you get it for less than your max... careful valuation prior to bidding preserves sanity for everyone... this is true of just about every ebay auction...

I gotta say though, I hardly use ebay anymore - with shipping costs and the time to complete auctions (nevermind the proliferation of career ebayers and few normal folk selling), I have much better luck using the local classifieds... especially with a car, so I can go and check it out in person... without some kind of warranty, how do you know your mint SPG you just paid $18k for doesn't have a transmission issue, or rotting coolant hoses or brake lines, or something else to fix (which is all fine if one pays $1800, but not if one adds a zero)...
