Thank you so much for that Jeff! That explanation was EXACTLY how I needed to hear it. I consider myself to have above average skills when it comes to autobody repair...because it's what I've done for 30+ years. I have the ability to do just about anything car related with professional results if I can have someone show me once or give a detailed explanation of the process. My old Harley was the cover of a book, the centerfold of American Iron magazine and in a WWF calender. I know how to do nice work....BUT, when it comes to automotive electronics, the word I find myself using mostly is "duh". Your explanation is crystal clear to me. Thank you. I'm not dumb, just electronically challenged!

Let me ask you this while I've got your ear: I have two '91 parts cars. One is still a drivable car that I bought just for it's buffalo grey interior. The rest is there for the pickin'. Can the '91 cruise system run completely independent of the ECU system? In other words; if I pulled out the '91 left side inner fender mounted cruise unit and necessary plugs, traced that harness up to the backside of the '91 instrument cluster and pulled the three prong plug that goes on the back of the '91 speedo, then grabbed whatever other electonic related pieces of the system that are on the '91 and installed them in my '88 making sure I sourced power and ground appropriately....the cruise system would work? The ECU in my '88 would never need to "interface" with the cruise system for any reason? Truth be told, I don't REALLY care if the cruise is rendered inopperable, but if I CAN make it work with a couple of hours effort, (the dash is coming out anyway) I would make an effort.

Sorry to be such a shnook, but you seem to really have a grasp on this, so I have to ask. I owe ya one. MUCH Thanks in advance. Cheers, Bob T.
